Junior F. Sawyer 81, died June 13, 2009 at Jefferson Community Health Center, Fairbury, Nebraska. A funeral was held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Gina Miller played the organ while Ed and John Durst sang “On Eagles Wings”. The congregation sang “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. The pallbearers were Norman Elliott, Don Slater, Jerry Baker, Phil Baker, Andy Baker and Ronnie Wurtz. The honorary pallbearers were Bill Bryant, Harold Nutsch, Robert Tegethoff, Lester Miller, Roger Huss and Jim Stanton. Burial was in Washington City Cemetery. Junior Francis Sawyer was born January 7, 1928 at Morrowville to Christian Earl and Elizabeth (Koch) Sawyer. He graduated from Morrowville High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Army and served in Inchon, Korea during WWII. When he was discharged, he attended and received an Associate Degree from the Fairbury Junior College. Junior was a farmer and raised cattle. He was a member of the Morrowville American Legion, Morrowville Lions, and Methodist Men with the Mill Creek Summit Parish. He enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, traveling, visiting with people and watching all kinds of sports. On January 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Huss at Fairbury, Nebraska. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Christy Brungardt and husband Dennis of Overland Park, KS, Debbie Hogan and husband Kevin of Topeka, KS; one son, Mark Sawyer and wife Mary of Burr Oak, KS; six grandchildren, Marilea Gateley, Travis Brungardt, Rebecca Moore, Rachel Pope, Stefanie Sawyer, Stacie Sawyer; and four great grandchildren, Cody Nichols, Donovan Smith, Harrison Moore and Tucker Abell. A Memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
