James B. Stanton

James Bruce Stanton, 62, Morrowville, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. A Celebration of Life was held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 24 at the Morrowville Christian Church, Morrowville. Pastor Ron Brown officiated. Kenny Jones accompanied Heath Hoge as he sang “When I Get Where I’m Going” and “Thank You for Being My Dad.” A recording of “I’ll See You in My Dreams” was played. Pallbearers were Ronnie Nutz, James Moore, Mike Zenger, Alan Zenger, Heath Allen and Daniel Schwab. Honorary pallbearers were Ben Tice, Lowell Herrs, Dennis Shea, Ronnie Lindsley, Rick Novak and Craig Fencl. Burial was in the Morrowville Cemetery. Jim was born November 8, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert and Alice (Palmer) Stanton. He was raised in Morrowville and graduated from North Central High School in 1971. He then earned an Associate Degree from Cloud County Community College, Concordia. Jim worked in the chemical and fertilizer business from a very young age. He shared his passion for agriculture, teaching his sons both how to spray fertilizer. James worked for the family owned business, Stanton Farm Services until 1992, then continued his career with Garvey Grain in Ellinwood, Ks selling fertilizer and chemicals. In 1994, Jim took a position as location and agronomy department manager with Midway Co-op and relocated to Osborne, Ks. He eventually returned to Morrowville as owner/operator of Mill Creek Ag Services until his health limited him to a less intensive work as an associate with Walmart in the toy department. This still allowed him to do what he enjoyed most, working with the public. Jim was a member of the Shriners, Lions Club, Kansas Ag Retailers Association, Kansas Fertilizer and Chemical Association and served on the USD# 221 School Board. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching television, the K-State Wildcats, KC Royals and NASCAR. He also liked to read and spend time with family and watching his grandchildren. He was united in marriage to Deborah Zenger on February 14, 1987. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Alice Stanton, Morrowville; sons Eric Stanton, Osborne, Brent (Brittany Talbot) Stanton, Fairbury, NE, Cody Stanton, Morrowville; daughters Tina Fischer (James Moore) Hutchinson, Ks, Stacey (Heath) Allen, Haddam, Chandra (Daniel) Schwab, Clifton; sisters Lynn (Bob) Allen, Haddam, Jennifer (Robert) Nutsch, Morrowville. Nine grandchildren, Rhiley Stanton, Madalyn Moore, Tristan, Triniti and Traven Allen, Caysen and Connor Stanton, Violaney and Aubrey Schwab. Preceding in death was his father, Robert Stanton.
