Alice Mae Fuhrken, 87, of Topeka, KS, and formerly of Washington, KS, died on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Topeka. Visitation was held Friday, September 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Washington United Methodist Church in Washington. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 26 at the church. Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock will officiate. The Eulogy was given by Thomas Buchanan. Gina Miller played the piano while the congregation sang “In the Garden” and “It Is Well with My Soul”. The soloist, Katherine Buchanan, sang “Over the Rainbow”. Interment was in the Washington City Cemetery. Alice was born February 19, 1928 in Narka, KS, the fourth and youngest child of Charlie and Barbara Brabec. Alice graduated from Washington High School in May 1944 and lived most of her life in Washington. On February 21, 1946 she married George Fuhrken. They had five children, Steve, Jerry, Joyce, Ted and Donna. She was a homemaker and was employed during her working years at the Washington County Hospital and as a Librarian in the Washington School District. She was a member of PEO and the Washington United Methodist Church. She loved music, painting, cooking, and most especially, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, both sisters, and her husband. Survivors include all five of her children and their spouses, son Steve and his wife Diane Fuhrken, Lenexa, KS; son Jerry and his wife Mary Fuhrken, Washington, KS; daughter Joyce and her husband Tom Buchanan, Leawood, KS; son Ted and his wife Diana Fuhrken, Topeka; and daughter Donna and her husband William Gilliland, Holton, KS; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; granddaughter Traci Fuhrken; grandson Tim and his wife Kris Fuhrken and their children Vince and Samantha; grandson Jason and his wife Jamie Buchanan and their daughter Isabella; granddaughter Katherine Buchanan and husband Brian Tadtman; grandson John Buchanan; granddaughter Kacie and her husband Aaron Strother and their children Riley and Kennedy; granddaughters Brooke and Alexis and grandson Brett Fuhrken; grandson Joey and his wife Amanda Vanderharr and their children Sheryl, Kaylee, and Colton.
