Clifford Wesley Smith Washington - Clifford Wesley Smith, died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at his home. He was born July 21, 1921, in Nowata, OK, the son of Vernie Opal and Andrew R. Smith. He was a heavy machine operator most of his life. He served his country from 1939-1945 in the Calvary Division of the Army. He received the Good Conduct medal with the Middle Eastern Campaign and the American Defense Service Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Velma; a brother Ramond of Phoenix, AR; sister, Thelma Spunaugle and husband Darrol of Washington; son, Clifford Eugene Smith and wife Debbie, Largo, FL, Two daughters, Judi Sortore and husband Michael, Independence, MO, Jerry Carr and husband Gill of Kansas City, MO; stepdaughters, Mary Cordry and husband Jim, Clifton, Bertha Jorgenson and husband Ron, Barnes, Linda McAvoy and husband David, Hartford, KS, Zelda Richwine and husband Mark, Lincoln, NE, Reba Buhr and husband, George, Dorchester, NE; stepsons, Vern Hoffman and wife Eva, Hebron, NE, Elmer Hoffman and wife Joann, Haddam, KS, Delbert Hoffman and wife Mary, Haddam, KS, Joe Hoffman and wife Janet, Bates City, MO; 37 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, in 1993; two brothers, Leo and Bob Smith; and two sisters, Mildred Vandeveer and Marie McKinley. A memorial service will be Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Washington Christian Church, 16 C Street, Washington. Pastor John Frey will officiate.
