Mary J Odgers, 99, formerly of Washington, died April 23, 2015 at Concordia, KS. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, April 27, at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 28 at the Ward Funeral Home. Burial is in Washington City Cemetery. Mary was born July 19, 1915 at Oakhill, Kansas to Marvin and Hattie (Baker) Van Scoyoc. She graduated from Longford Rural High School in 1934. On October 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Elmer Odgers at the family home in Oak Hill. They lived in the Clay Center, Oak Hill and Longford communities before moving to Hollenberg in 1967. Mary moved to Washington in 1997. The past eight years she lived in Concordia, spending much time with her family. Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, bible study and walking. She liked watching the Kansas City Royals. Mary did quilting and made quilts by hand for her entire family. She was baptized into the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. Mary spent every Sunday dinner with family and was the family historian. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to make people smile and laugh. Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Elmer, March 11, 1980; daughter, Mildred in infancy; sisters, Beth Dieffenbaugh, Inez Burt, Aurel Cissel; brother, Wendell Van Scoyoc; and great-grandson, Brett Beswick. Survivors include son, James Odgers, Wamego; daughters, Beverly (Ron) Caron, Concordia, Janice Bender, Concordia; sister-in-law, Luella Van Scoyoc, Clay Center; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and many friends. A memorial fund is established to Sunset Home, Inc., Concordia. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
