Kenneth E. McCune, 89, of Washington, KS, died Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. Visitation was Monday, Noon to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 19 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison Knock officiated. Dennis portiner was the pianist and sang “In The Garden” and “One Day At A Time.” “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “There Goes My Everything” were played. Pallbearers were Chris McCune, Dana Unruh, Dawn Shefick, Brandi McCune, Roger McCune, Jr.and Michael McCune. Honorary pallbearers were Logan Gauby, Justin Dean, Morgan Gauby, Josh Anderson, Cheri Dettke, Chris Ouellette, Andy Anderson, T.J. Anderson, Zach Anderson, Amber Anderson, Trenton Anderson, Dustin Hendricks and Haley Brandsgard Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Kenny was born on February 15, 1925 at Alva, OK, to Isaac and Martha (Martin) McCune. On January 16, 1972 he married Rosalie Christensen at Wichita, KS. They lived in McPherson, KS, and Bennington, KS, before moving to Washington in 1973. Ken served as Deputy Sheriff in Ottawa County and Undersheriff and Sheriff in Washington County. In 1987, he retired as Chief of Police in Washington. He then ran a day care with his wife for twenty five years. He loved kids, sports and playing music. He was a member of the “Rubber Bands” with Tom Parry and Darwin Pfister. They would play at area nursing homes and events. Ken enjoyed the Kansas City Royals, KU Basketball and playing cards. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Clifford McCune, Floyd McCune, Don McCune, Claude McCune, Frank McCune and Howard McCune; and four sisters, Letha McDaniels, Opal Stoeber, Velma Wilson and Gracie Cliff. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; children, Roger (Wendy) McCune, Fillmore, CA, Karen (Lyle) Miller, Cheyenne Wells, CO, Doug (Amy) Anderson, Washington, Lloyd (Julie) Anderson, Hillsboro, KS, Tom (Karla) Anderson, Overland Park, KS, and Sheila (Jerry) Ouellette, Washington; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Memorial may be made to the Washington County Hospital or Washington United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
