Elda Emma Lissette Sophie Ohlde, 97, of Palmer, KS, died Friday, September 26, at Community Care in Clifton, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 29, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Palmer. Sheila Stuenkel played the organ while the congregation sang “For All the Saints”, “Just As I Am” and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were Jerry Meyer, Harvey Herrs, Leonard Beikman, Neil Bisping, Larry Ohlde, and Bryce Peters. Burial was in the church cemetery. On January 9, 1911, Elda Emma Lissette Sophie Hesterberg was born near Clay Center, Kansas to William and Mary (Bisping) Hesterberg. The gracious Triune God created within her saving faith in Jesus Christ and received her into membership in His redeemed family through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on January 15, 1911, by the Rev. J.V. Reininga of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Clay Center, Kansas. Elda attended school to the eighth grade. She confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in the rite of confirmation on April 5, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church of Linn under the Rev. K. Karstensen. She was united in marriage to Alvin Ohlde on September 9, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church of Linn, Kansas, by the Rev. K. Karstensen. The couple was blessed with a 7-year-old son Ewald just before Christmas in 1950. Elda was an active member in LWML. She was farmwife and mother. Elda loved gardening, flowers, and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; and one brother, Raymond Hesterberg. Survivors include her son, Ewald and wife JoAnn of Palmer, Kansas; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister, Erma Emery of Surprise, Arizona. Memorials will go to the Lutheran Hour and the Linn Lutheran School Endowment Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
