Robert L. Neu

Robert L. Neu, 87, of Washington, KS, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation was Tuesday, September 2, from noon until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Judy Hill officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist and Reed Wilson sang "Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pallbearers were Dusty Leonard, Richard Neu, Doug LeMaster, Fred LeMaster Jr., Robert J. Neu, Jacob Neu, Jerry Baker, Robert Hogan and Ryan Kern. Honorary Pallbearers were Lee Gauby, Norman Stewart, Robert Kohlmeier, Ivan Hinkle, Bill Skrabal, JR Werner, and Linus Linenberger. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery east of Washington. Robert was born July 8, 1927 on a farm near Washington, KS, son of Jacob and Laura (Waterman) Neu. He attended Scruby School north of Washington and then Washington High School. On November 6, 1949, he married Betty Schank at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover, KS. She survives. Robert worked as a custodian for the Washington Grade School and Washington High School. He also drove a bus. He later owned and operated Washington Electronics. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and the Kansas Jayhawks. His grandchildren and great-grandchild, Ozzy, were especially important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Wayne Neu; and a sister, Pearl Hogan. Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Robert Mike (Lydia) Neu, Lawrence, KS; sister, Doris (Fred) LeMaster, Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Dorothy Neu, Washington, KS; grandchildren, Dr. Robert J. (Megan) Neu, and their son, Robert O. "Ozzy" Neu, Lawrence, Jacob Neu, Royal Oak, MI, and Angela Neu, Overland Park, KS; and close friend, Brice Leonard, Washington.
