Matthew John Peters, 48, of Greenleaf, Kan., died March 11, 2014 at Greenleaf.A funeral service in Greenleaf was at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at Ward Funeral Home.   The Rev. Phil Nielsen  officiated. The pallbearers were  Tom Weber, Richard Murray, David Black, Allan Feil, Jerry Aldridge and Curtis Dooth.A funeral service in Deshler, Neb., will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at Peace Lutheran Church. .  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time. The Rev. Phil Nielsen will officiate. The pallbearers will be Steven Higel, James Higel, David Higel, Neil Meyer, Paul Kniep and Pastor Tim Koester.The honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephew, Emma, Zach and Klare Peters.Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Byron, Neb.Matthew was born December 17, 1965 at Superior, Neb., son of Myron and Fairy (Higel) Peters. He was baptized on January 9, 1966 and confirmed on June 15, 1980 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Byron, Neb. He attended Byron Elementary School, School of New Hope in Hebron, Neb., Belleville Special Education, and graduated from Belleville High School in 1985.In 1985, Matthew moved to Greenleaf and worked at Twin Valley Developmental Services. He later worked for Jones Trash Service and was currently employed at Titan West in Linn, Kan.He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to races and basically anything that included semi-trucks. Matthew also enjoyed working with his family on their farm near Byron.Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Edna Peters and Harlan and Leila Higel; uncles, Ludwig Peters and LaVern Kniep; aunt, Phyllis Higel; and cousin, Kathy Peters.Survivors include his parents, Myron and Fairy Peters, Byron, Neb., brother, Evan (Karen) Peters, Gretna, Neb., two nieces and one nephew, Emma, Zach and Klare; and numerous family and friends.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Greenleaf Volunteer Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff Department, Twin Valley Developmental Services or Peace Lutheran Church.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W 2nd, Washington, KS  66968.
