Becky S. Hughes, 53, of Washington, KS, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Washington County Hospital. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 31 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated and John Burnett read the eulogy. Gay Lynn Manning played the piano while Leland Cook sang "In the Garden". The pallbearers were Dennis Burnett, Ron Burnett, John Burnett, Steve Burnett, Ray Burnett and Mike Burnett. The honorary pallbearers were Don Hicks and James Hicks. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Becky was born July 30, 1960, at Washington, daughter of Claude F. and Ruth G. (Burnett) Rochek. In 1978, she graduated from Washington High School and then attended Joseph's College of Beauty in Beatrice, NE. On December 1, 1979, she married Larry Hughes at the United Methodist Church in Washington. She was a hairdresser for many years and later worked as the admissions clerk and receptionist for the Washington County Hospital. She was a people person and always put others first. Family was important to her and she loved family gatherings and spoiling her grandchildren. Becky was a member of Modern Pioneers, volunteered for the Washington Chamber of Commerce and with Independence Farms. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Larry; two daughters, Emily (Jeremy) Rippe, Hanover, KS, and Lacey (Josh) Turner, Washington; son, Taylor Hughes and friend Tiffany Ward, Pratt, KS; sisters, Sherry Rochek and companion Charles Harper, Manhattan, KS, and Lori Rochek, Washington; and two grandchildren, Chancie and Corbin Turner. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
