Edwin H. Herrs, 91, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland, KS. A funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West of Linn. Deacon Don Dodd officiated. Amanda Beikmann was organsit and played congregation hymns, "What a Friend We have in Jesus" and "I'm But a Stranger Here." Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Kent Herrs, Dean Herrs, Chris Herrs, Lennis Helms, Mark Beikmann and Alan Herrs. Edwin was born on April 4, 1922 to George and Maria (Flomer) Herrs at Strawberry Township. He was baptized April 7th, 1922, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Linn by Pastor Paul Stolp. He was confirmed in 1936 by Pastor Stolp. He served his country in the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged at Topeka Ks. Edwin was a member of the Wholmoor American Legion Post, Linn Kansas. He was one of the original charter members of this post. Edwin was actively engaged on the family farm until health concerns forced a change in life. He was living on his great-grandfather Henry Herrs original homestead and was always ready to show people the original dugout home they (his great- grandparents) had lived in. He enjoyed all aspects of that life and raised various animals associated with it. Edwin was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had held various offices on the church council. He loved to sing and was a regular whenever the choir was needed. Edwin is survived by one nephew, one niece and many, many cousins. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence; and sister, Selma Duensing. A memorial fund has been established to the Linn American Legion.
