Joseph L. Mackey, 35, of Washington, formerly of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenleaf. Pastor Patrick J. Curry officiated. Winifred Elmborg was organist who played the congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden.” Casket bearers are Dan Harlan, Mike Harlan, Scott Fankhauser, Doug Bower, Bill Harlan and Chuck Zeller. Joseph was born February 7, 1973, at Emporia, Kan. He attended school in Madison, Kan. before moving to Longview, Tex., where he graduated from high school in 1991. He then attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1995. He married Stacy Standley and they were blessed with two children. Joseph worked in the food service industry. He operated a pizza restaurant in Castle Rock, Col., and was a franchise developer for Quizno's. Joseph moved to Washington in January 2008. He enjoyed his children, cycling and hiking throughout the Rocky Mountains. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Mackey; and one brother, Larry Scott Mackey. Survivors include two sons, Mason J. Mackey and Clayton J. Mackey, and their mother Stacy Mackey, all of Manhattan; mother, Vicki Christian and husband Tony of Washington, Kan.; one sister, Valerie Yu and husband Derrick of Big Spring, Tex.; one nephew, Scott Fankhauser of Big Spring, Tex.; and special friend, Aaron McDonald of Salt Lake City, UT.
