Edith Materi, 95, of Washington passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Washington. A rosary service was at 9:45 a.m., Thursday morning at the church. Father Jim Hoover & Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Gina Miller played the organ. The music selection was "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", and "Prayer of St. Francis". Pallbearers were Duane Durst, Dale Miller, Kenny Depew, Francis Goeckel, Maurice Goeckel, and Henry Goeckel, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Voter, Carlin Voter, Stanford Stamm, Orville Spence, and Rex Wohlbrandt. Edith was born August 23, 1912, at Morrowville, Kan., the daughter of Phillip and Margaret (Cummings) Yager. On February 22, 1931, she married Adam Materi at Clifton, Kan. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1989. She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, St. Augustine's Altar Society, and a past member of St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church north of Morrowville. She enjoyed quilting with the ladies at church, gardening, working, and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adam; one son, George W. Materi; one brother, Herman Yager; two sisters, Mildred Barnes and Viola Elder; and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by one son, Phillip Materi and wife Barbara of Torrance, Cal.; three sisters, Ruby Spence of Washington, Kan., Leta Heigel of Fairbury, Neb., and Elsie Kranzler-Milton of Salina, Kan.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Washington. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
