Eleanor Louise Tegethoff, 85, Washington, Kansas died Thursday, March 06, 2008 at the Homestead Nursing Home, Washington. A funeral service was held at 10:30 am, Monday, March 10 at the United Methodist Church, Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while the congregation sang “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Eleanor was born April 20, 1922, at Oneida, Kan., the daughter of Clarence J. and Louise (Locher) Sherrard. Mrs. Tegethoff graduated from Oneida High School in 1940 and Grand Island Nebraska Business College in 1941. Eleanor worked in several different Kansas County Farmers Home Administration Offices in the 1940’s and worked for over 22 years as a bookkeeper for over 22 years at Stigge’s Department Store in Washington. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and a past member of the Auxillary of VFW Post 7437. Eleanor liked flower gardening, sewing and making quilts for the grandchildren. She was married to Gilbert Tegethoff on October 6, 1946, at Seneca, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1997. She was also preceded by her parents and a sister, Ruby Roxberry and a grandson. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Pierce and husband Jerry, Washington and Martha Tice and husband Tom of Centreville, VA: four granddaughters and four great grandsons; and a sister, Elsie Younghans and husband Richard of Stockton, MO.
