WASHINGTON - Herman P. Ouellette, 76, formerly of Washington, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Lincoln, Nebraska. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 3, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington. Father Jim Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ. The songs were "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross", "Amazing Grace", "For the Beauty of the Earth", and "Celtic Farewell". Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Rippe, Jerry Ouellette, Jeff Ouellette, James Ouellette, Gary Ouellette, and Ernie Heisterman. Herman was born July 16, 1931, at Palmer, Kansas, the son of Delphos and Amanda (Struber) Ouellette. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1993 he moved to Lincoln, NE. He owned and operated Ouellette Construction for many years in Washington. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and selling worms. Survivors include one daughter, Angie Ouellette and companion Elmer Smith of Sioux City, IA; one stepson, Larry Rippe and wife Pam, Odessa, TX; one brother, Paul Ouellette, Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Margery Doebele of Hanover, and Kathleen Bledsoe of Washington; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, William Ouellette, Emil Ouellette, and Delphis "Bud" Ouellette. A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
