Harold H. Jones, Jr., 67, of Washington, KS, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. A funeral service was at 10 a.m., Friday, February 1, at the Presbyterian Church in Washington. Rev. Marilyn Sweet and Sr. Marilyn Wall officiated. Becky Pannbacker was organist and played "Amazing Grace" and "The Strife is O'er, The Battle Done." Pallbearers were Glenn Bekemeyer, Greg Bekemeyer, Jay Peters, Brad stauffer, Gary Jackman and Dallas Beikmann. Honorary bearers were Pete Peters, Jim Jones, Jr., Jim Jones, Sr. and Austin Jones. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Harold was born February 25, 1945 at Horton, KS, son of Harold H., Sr., and Ruth (Hall) Jones. On February 15, 1969, he married Gail Tegethoff at Washington, KS. He served in the National Guard then was drafted into the U.S. Army. He belonged to the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. On February 20, 1969, he left for Vietnam and returned in August 1969. Harold worked at Goodyear in Topeka. He also farmed, raised livestock and did excavating work with his brother. In 1976, he started Jones Trash Service and then moved to Woodland Park, CO, in 1982. In 2000, he returned to Washington and farmed. Then in 2004, he restarted Jones Trash Service. Harold served on the Wetmore School Board, Florissant Water Board, Teller County Central Committee, Teller County Republican Party and Woodland Park Saddle Club. From 2007 until his death he served as the Mayor for the City of Washington. Harold enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, and family, history and politics. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Gail, on April 25, 2012. Survivors include his children, Shelley (Jay) Peters, and Jim (GayLynn) Jones, all of Washington; brother, Rick (Emily) Jones, Wetmore, KS; and two grandchildren, Jim and Pete.
