Calvin F. Tegethoff

Calvin Francis Tegethoff, 90, died December 10, 2012 at Kansas Veterans Home, Winfield, KS. A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 15, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Washington. Pastor Judy Hill officiated. Sheila Ouellette, organist, accompanied Dr. Jim Smart as he sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross." The congregation sang "Silent Night." Pallbearers were Wayne Bolejack, Gary Edgar, Justice Tegethoff, Taylor Chester, Steve Frazier and Tim Knudsen. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Calvin was born on October 25, 1922, at Washington, KS, to Frank F. and Daisy I. (Meyer) Tegethoff. On July 20, 1943 he was united in marriage to Alma G. Edgar at Greenleaf, KS. Calvin farmed for 35 years in Missouri. They moved to Ottawa, KS and he owned and operated Cal’s Door Service for 25 years, retiring in his 80’s. He was a horse lover and would attend horse shows as often as time would allow. He also loved friends, family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ivan Tegethoff; and sister, Leota Baker. Survivors include his wife, Alma; sons, James (Nancy) Tegethoff, Wichita, KS, and Gary (Dalia) Tegethoff, Pasedena, TX; sisters, Barbara Alldredge, Niceville, FL, and Nadine (Ken) Sparks, Dover, DE; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 West 2nd St., Washington, KS 66968.
