Billie Ladonna Heck, 79, died October 8, 2012 at her home in Washington. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 12, at Ward Funeral Home. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Gracie Bryant played the organ while the congregation sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers were Leland Cook, Gary Wiese, Pete Williams, Darel Bertram, Danny Williams and Dr. Bill Bryant. Burial was in the Linn City Cemetery. Ladonna was born March 13, 1933, at Palmer, KS, to Herman and Esther (Beswick) Pfeiffer. She attended Parallel Country School until the summer of 1946 when the family moved to her grandparent's farm near Linn. In 1951, she graduated from Linn High School. Ladonna was a member of the Linn United Methodist Church until transferring to the Washington United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. Ladonna was a pianist and for a number of years gave private music lessons. Her hobbies included crocheting dollies, embroidering pillowcases, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren. For 21 years she worked at the Washington Co-op and then Washington County Public Works Department. On June 3, 1961, she was united in marriage to Marvin L. Heck of Washington. He survives. Other survivors include their son, Bryce (Brenda) Heck, Linn; and two grandchildren, Rachael (Bret) Harshbarger, Topeka, and Melissa Heck, Manhattan. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
