David Rowland

David Rowland, 72, Washington, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at his daughters’ home. He was born to Chester E. and Harriet M. (Molby) Rowland on June 20, 1935 in rural Washington. David graduated from Washington High School and earned a bachelors degree at college. He taught school at Emmons, Cuba and Seneca. David later became a full time farmer and custom ground hay. On April 29, 1961 he was united in marriage to Doris Haile at Odessa, MO. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Deanna Rowland and Donna Rowland; a son, Steven Rowland; and a granddaughter, Jamie Keller. David is survived by daughters, Rachelle Burrell and Janet Keller and husband Jason, of Washington; a sister, Kay Phillips and husband, Joe, of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Charles Rowland and wife, Janiece, of Alden, KS; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held 10:30 am Tuesday, November 6, at the First Baptist Church, Washington. Rev. Paul Hutchison officiated. Erin Toole was the pianist and Dr. James Smart sang “How Great Thou Art”. Congregational hymns were “Because He Lives and It Is Well With My Soul. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Casketbearers were Les Gauby, Don Woodcock, Gary Dusin, Lee Haile, Jarrod Rowland and Terry Bailey. Honorary bearers were Lee Gauby, Joe Sheppard, Norman Stewart, Elmer Zabokrtsky and Dr. James Smart. A memorial fund has been established and contributions will benefit the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
