Helen Ayers

Helen Agnes Ayers, age 93, passed away on March 30, 2005, at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, Kansas. Helen was born December 5, 1911, in Kimeo, Kansas to John and Ann (Hennessy) Rogers, where she spent her childhood. Later her family relocated to Haddam, Kansas where she graduated from high school in 1929. She and Ernest “Olie” Ayers were married on August 26, 1929, and settled in Linn where Olie was employed by the Hoerman Packing Company. In 1948 they became the owners of the Hoerman Hatchery, Linn, Kansas, which they operated together for 20 years. Helen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf, Kansas. In her later years Helen was an active participant in the formation of the Washington County Historical Museum. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Rogers, brother Bill Rogers, her husband Ernest Olen Ayers, and one infant son John. Helen Ayers is survived by two daughters, Sharon Albee and husband Robert of Ocala, Florida and Sandra Riley and husband Dan of Columbus, Nebraska; two sons, Roger and wife Sherry of Lisle, Illinois and Bruce and wife Cindy of Eaton, Colorado; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Visitation was held at the Ward Funeral Home in Linn, Kansas, from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, April 4th. Mass was held at 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Church, Greenleaf, Kansas on Tuesday, April 5 with Father James Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiating. Burial was in the Linn City Cemetery.
