Lorene Goeckel

Washington – Lorene Goeckel, 82, died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Washington County Hospital. She was born at home in rural Hanover, on April 7, 1925 to Albert J. and Rose (Koehler) Goeckel. She was the middle child, having an older brother Gilbert and younger brother Edwin. In her younger years she worked in Washington and Marysville and then made working with the catholic church her career. Lorene loved serving her church in many capacities, including helping Father Ernest Gallagher at Greenleaf, Aurora, Oberlin, and Zurich before retiring. She returned to Washington after retirement and became a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she was involved with the altar society, and quilted with the quilting group twice a week. Besides being an avid quilter and doing needlework, she loved working in her garden and with flowers. She resided with her beloved brother Edwin, who survives of the home. Lorene is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were like her own children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gilbert. Funeral service for Lorene was held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 15, 2007 at St, Augustine Catholic Church, Washington. Father James Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Burial was in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hanover. Casket bearers were her “kids” Carol Russell, Doug Goeckel, Mike Russell, AJ Goeckel, Andy Goeckel, and Alex Goeckel. Honorary bearers were Ed Koehler, Maurice Goeckel, Carl Koehler, Lavearn Goeckel, Lawrence Goeckel, and Henry Goeckel Jr. A memorial was established in her name to be designated by the family at a later time.
