Anna May Herda, 91, of Linn, KS, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 4, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Washington. Pastor Judy Hill officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while Christy L'Ecuyer sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." The pallbearers were Randy Root, Ronald Funke, Bernard Scheele, Bill Scheele, Dennis Knuppel, Scott Scheele and Michael Graham. Burial was in the Linn City Cemetery. Anna May was born at Hollenberg to Wilke and Barbara (Steinlein) Ahlers on May 1, 1921. She attended school in Hollenberg and moved to Hanover in 1937, at the age of 16, and worked various jobs. In 1941, Anna May was united in marriage to Herbert Lavern Jones. Herbert died from leukemia in 1954. Anna May moved back to Hollenberg to care for her father and after his death, she moved to Washington. Anna May worked for Dr. Parry as a dental assistant. On April 18, 1964 she was united in marriage to Jim Herda. They lived in Linn and owned and operated the Linn Laundry Mat and Linn Recreation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on September 25, 2003; parents; sisters, Lucille Ahlers, Dorothy Meyer, Lois Scheele, Naomi Knuppel; brothers, infant Bernard Ahlers, and Noel Ahlers. Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Funke and Julia Root, both of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Linn Community Nursing Home.
