Lester W. Gassert

Lester Gassert, 81, Washington, died Thursday, September 13, 2007 at his home. He was born August 9, 1926 to Roy Ellsworth and Anna Leona (Stolzer) Gassert at Washington. Lester graduated from Washington High School in 1944, and enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, being honorably discharged in 1946. On May 25, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lucille H. Capello in New Orleans, LA. They then returned to Kansas where he was engaged in farming. Lester enjoyed reading, his farming, raising cattle and horses. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; a son, Dolan Gassert and wife Debbie, Topeka; a daughter Gaynel Gassert, New Orleans, LA; and sisters, Eva Chartier, Wichita, Neva Gruver, Scott City and Anna Eikelberger and husband Stewart, Scott City. Funeral Service for Lester will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 18, at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. There is no visitation.
