Gertrude Mae Mayer, 89, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Washington, KS, died April 9, 2012, at her home. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 13 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. Father Kenneth Borowiak officiated. Another rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 16 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Father David Metz officiated. The musicians were be Carla Lister and Hannah Mayer. Music included “Pie Jesu”, “Ave Maria”, “The Prayer” and “Coming Home.” The pallbearers were Eric Lister, Ash Tully, Cain Dixon, Peter Dach, Grant Heser, Jerod Woods and Michael Dach. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Gertrude was born May 27, 1922, near Morrowville, KS, daughter of Carl and Emile (Peters) Schroeder. On October 16, 1943 she married Verlin Mayer at Clyde, KS. They lived on the farm until 1956 then moved into Washington. In 2002, they moved to Lincoln to be closer to their children. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, sewing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Gertrude was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Altar Society. She attended church at St. Michael Catholic Church in Lincoln. Her parents; five brothers, William, Ernest, Ralph, Marion and Duane; and two sisters, Maxine Schroeder and Helen Slater, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Verlin; two daughters Marilyn (Pete) Dach, Pagosa Springs, CO, and Pat Heser, Lincoln; three sons, Jim Mayer, Robert (Marcy) Mayer, both of Lincoln, and Dennis Mayer, Nebraska City, NE; sister, Bernice Landis, Belleville, KS; two brothers, Vern Schroeder, Valparaiso, IN, and Victor Schroeder, Derby, KS; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to St. Augustine Altar Society, Care Consultants for the Aging, and St. Michaels Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE.
