Marilyn Burt, 82, of Washington, KS, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. A funeral service was at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 13 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while Dr. Roger Baskerville sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." The pallbearers were Clint Knedlik, J.C. Brabec, Garett Edgar, Nathan Edgar, Gary Edgar, Steve Zenger, Rex Zenger and Dr. David Hodgson. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Marilyn was born May 15, 1929 at Haddam, to Clark and Marie (Dewitt) Burton. In 1946, she graduated from Haddam High School. On July 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edwin Burt at Belleville, KS. They lived at Haddam until moving to Washington in 1961. Together they owned and operated the Washington Sale Barn until retiring in 1976. Marilyn was the bookkeeper for the business. After retirement they traveled throughout the United States. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She was a loving mother and grandmother and always attended the grandchildren’s events. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; brother, Clayton Burton; and grandson, Tyler Burt. Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Jim) Brabec, Greenleaf, and Beth (Greg) Knedlik, Paola, KS; son, Todd (Laurie) Burt, Washington; sisters-in-law, Betty (Babe) Zenger, Haddam, and Doris Ford, Manhattan; grandchildren, Rachel (Cam) McVean, Kim (Jerry) Grasso, J.C. (Pam) Brabec, Heather (Dave) Meyer, Amy Knedlik, Clint Knedlik, Amanda (Jay) Craig, and Trevor (Amanda) Dickson; and great-grandchildren, Garett, Nathan and Hannah Edgar, Demetrius and Maya Grasso, Nora Mae Brabec, Olivia, Sophia and Chase Meyer, Lilliana and Cecelia Craig and James Dickson. A memorial fund has been established to KSDS, Inc., in Washington. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
