LaVern Raymond Stigge, 68, Washington, KS died Friday, July 27, 2007, on his farm. He was born November 13, 1938 to Otto and Leona Beikman Stigge. LaVern was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf, where he served as an elder and was on the church board.. He was baptized November 20, 1938 and confirmed his faith on April 6, 1952. He graduated in 1956 from Washington High School. On May 10, 1964 he married Verlene Bott and together they were blessed with 5 children. LaVern had a love for farming and worked hard at it all his life. He also drove a school bus, was a Washington School Board member, and was in the Army Reserve. LaVern enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, riding horses, and reading. His greatest passion, however, was in spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by is father, Otto. LaVern is survived by his wife, daughters, Linda Bisping and husband Todd, Morton, IL, Jeanette Hudgeons and husband Dean, Owasso, OK, Teresa Penning and husband Chuck, Washington, Barbara Bruna and husband Toby, Hanover; Son Michael Stigge and wife Laura, Overland Park, KS; mother, Leona Wiechman and husband Albert, Linn; brothers, Norman Stigge and wife Maureen, Dennis Stigge and wife Dorothy, all of Washington; sister Ruth True and husband Neal, Downs, KS; and twenty-two grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf, Monday, July 30, 2007 at 10 am. Pastor David Gruoner will officiate. Sheila Ouellette will be organist for the service with congregational hymns, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Casket bearers are Shawn Stigge, Luke Bott, Brian Stigge, Greg Bott, Mark True, Darren True, Daryl Bott and Doug Bott. The visitation will be held at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington, Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 3 pm to 8 pm. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
