Robert Charles Welch, 82, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ and Dr. Jim Smart sang "In the Garden" and Hymn of Promise." Burial was in the Haddam City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Welch, Aaron Welch, James Welch, Don Kamphaus, Kenny Welch, Dennis Welch and Chad Parrack. Robert was born at Haddam on March 8, 1929 to Floyd E. and Nora H. (Carlson) Welch. He attended school in Haddam and graduated from Haddam High School. After graduation he worked on the family farm. On December 27, 1948, he married Wyona L. Dexter at Marysville. They later divorced. Robert enjoyed trapping, cleaning, stretching and selling hides, and going on coyote hunts with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Welch; daughter, Shirley Conley; brother, Edwin Welch; and sister, Norma Jean Brown. Survivors include his sons, Gerald Welch, Fredricksburg, VA, Larry (Helen) Welch, Washington, KS; daughter, Sharon (Andries) Joubert, Washington, KS; brother, James Welch, Salina, KS; brother-in-law, Elmer Brown, Cuba, KS; sister-in-law, Luella Welch, Haddam, KS; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
