David Enos Brenneis, 56, of Winfield, Kansas, died August 7, 2011 at Winfield. A graveside funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, August 13, at the Joy Creek Cemetery north of Washington. Pallbearers were Fred Oltrogge, Rick Oltrogge, Mike Oltrogge, Jim Oltrogge, Bernie Kathe, Terry Hotchkiss and Chris Roskilly. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., August 18, 2011 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Arkansas, Kansas. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate. David Enos Brenneis was born to Roe and Delores Oltrogge Brenneis at Hanover Hospital, Hanover, KS on April 27, 1955. He was baptized on May 22, 1975 by Lutheran Minister Paul Krause. Even though David suffered from seizures since birth and most recently kidney failure, he was able to attend various activities, of which he enjoyed being outside and around animals the most. When David was able, he would bowl at the Special Olympics. David lived with his parents until October 1962 when he was admitted to Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka, KS. He lived at the Kansas Neurological Institute until October 1971 when he was transferred to the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in Winfield, KS. David lived at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center until June 1996 when he was transferred to a South Wind Community Facility. He was in the South Wind Community Facility until October 1997 at which time he was transferred to a Martin Luther Homes of Kansas home (currently known as Mosaic). David passed away at his home in Winfield, KS on August 7, 2011. He was preceded in death by parents, Roe and Delores Oltrogge Brenneis of Hollenberg, KS. David is survived by his brother and wife, Dennis and Marilyn Brenneis of Aledo, TX; sister and husband, Della and William Cook of Wamego, KS; niece, Alice Brenneis of San Antonio, TX; step-niece, Judi Freeland of Arlington, TX; guardian and friend Melody Brinigar of Winfield, KS; and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial fund has been established to Mosaic. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
