Lola A. Duitsman

Lola Anna Sophia Duitsman, 89, of Linn, Kansas, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Rev. David Gruoner officiated. Mary Gieseke played the organ while Jeremy Pera sang "The Lords Prayer" and Peggy Pera sang "Come to Jesus." Both Peggy and Jeremy Pera sang "Jesus Loves Me." Congregational hymns were "Just as I Am" and "Abide With Me" The pallbearers were her grandsons, David Duitsman, Tim Duitsman, Mark Duitsman, Dr. Jonathan Kobuszewski, Dr. Joshua Kobuszewski and Christopher Schell. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Lola was born July 8, 1922 at Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Henry W. and Lydia (Blanken) Meyer. She graduated from Linn Rural High School in 1940. After high school Lola worked at the Linn Palmer Record before moving to Topeka where she worked at Hallmark for 2 years. She then moved to Estes Park, Colorado and worked as a nanny. While her fiance, Ervin Duitsman was stationed in Florida, Lola spent some time there with him and worked in a Candy Factory. She moved back to Linn and on March 24, 1946 she married Ervin Duitsman at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Lola enjoyed gardening, sewing and painting. She also loved to follow and travel to her grandchildrens activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin, on Dec. 25, 2004; and two brothers, Delmar and Raymond Meyer. Survivors include a son, Donald (Linda) Duitsman, Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, Carol Jane (Dr. Mike) Kobuszewski, and Kristin Jolene (Ronald) Schell, all of Topeka, Kan.; one sister, Dorine Martin, Concordia, Kan.; eight grandchildren, David Duitsman, Tim Duitsman, Mark Duitsman, Dr. Jonathan Kobuszewski, Dr. Joshua Kobuszewski, Christopher Schell, Jennifer Duitsman-Olson and Annie Kobuszewski-Alvarez; and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to Lutheran Hour or Zion Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
