Arlo W. Lohmeyer, 89, of Greenleaf, Kansas, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church southwest of Greenleaf. Pastor Timothy Lorenz officiated. Arlene Miller played the organ as the congregation sang, “Jesus, Lead Thou On”, “Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won”, “The King of Love My Shepherd Is” and Alleluia! Jesus is Risen.” The pallbearers were Jared Woltje, Jeremy Olson, Schuyer Peters, Travis Lohmeyer, Travis Clark, Jesse Clark, Jaron Schoenberger and Trevor Cole. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arlo was born November 21, 1921 on a farm near Greenleaf, to Wilhelm and Louise (Oestreich) Lohmeyer. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran School. Arlo helped his family on the farm before going in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Greenleaf to farm. He worked at the Greenleaf Lumberyard for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Draft Horse Association. He was a draft horse enthusiast and enjoyed listening to ballgames on the radio. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Marvin, Wilbert and Herb; sisters, Alice Lohmeyer, Elda Woltje, Marie Clark and Dora Waterman; and step-sister, Alvina Laue. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established in his name to the Linn Community Nursing Home or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
